Homecoming 101: What Dress Your Need and Why You Need It...

It's time to start bringing out my favorite V neck sweaters and while you're digging through your closet you might realize you have NOTHING to wear for your Homecoming game that is right around the corner. You probably love getting all of your girlfriends together to put on your make-up and help each other with your hair styles, but do you know why you're all together zipping each other up and borrowing your best friends heels?
Homecoming is all about school spirit and this big night is a time for graduates to return to their alma mater to mingle with their classmates and meet their peers that followed in their footsteps. The homecoming tradition is an American celebration, and the exact school of the first annual homecoming is up for debate. The only fact known is that it began in colleges and universities, and slowly spilled down into American high schools.

While some traditions might vary from school to school, there are the basics. First, there is usually a pep rally the day before, or the same night of the biggest game of the season. Students traditionally dress up for this and girl's sport their short flirty dresses and heels while guys dress up in button up shirts and ties. All girls usually flaunt their own distinctive style in the short dresses, unless they are on the homecoming court. If you're an underclassman shopping for your dress, check out this Jasz Couture 4403! I love the coral color and the unique gathered skirt with feathers!

Long gowns are worn by the attendees of the homecoming court. The homecoming court is a group of selected juniors and seniors chosen to represent the school and it's spirit. There is usually a crowning ceremony for a homecoming king and queen. If you're in the court, you will obviously need a stunning floor length dress to look the part! The dress doesn't need to be too flashy for the fall. You don't really NEED the all over sequin Sherri Hill gown, but every dress shopper is different. I would suggest a gown that is simple and elegant. The Blush dress C027 makes a GREAT formal dress in the ivory and gold. This flowing jersey will flatter most any shape and the overall design is so classic!

We have a TON of short and long dresses that just arrived from Jovani, Mac Duggal, and Tony Bowls! Although, I am pretty excited about the Sherri Hill stock order! Just wait until you see what she's come up with!

A Few Things Every Pageant Girl Needs...

School is back in session which means soon it will be time to shop for your high school pageant dress! After you take the title at your school you might decide to do a local pageant or even a Miss Teen USA preliminary this fall or winter.

While finding the perfect winning pageant gown might be a bit of a challenge, the right shoes and jewelry for your pageant should also be taken into consideration! PageantDesigns.com not only has a HUGE selection of evening wear online, we also carry the hottest names in pageantry.

Jonathan Kayne is known for his custom pageant dresses and his looks that walked the "Project Runway" catwalk. He is even more known for his best selling pageant shoes! Jonathan Kayne has designed an incredible line of shoes for the die hard pageant contestant that works hard for the crown. The Austria Jonthan Kayne shoe is a great four inch heel topped off with dazzling A.B. rhinestones that look even better with a pageant gown with a high slit in the skirt. The Savannah shoe by Jonathan Kayne is what you see on the Miss USA stage. This nude heel is ideal for pageant swimwear. The rhinestone embellishment gives just enough sparkle to a simple bold colored swim suit but not distract the judges eye.

If your little star is not quite ready for the traditional six inch heels, start her off in the Paradox London Little Miss shoe, SweetPea. This adorable little girl pageant shoe features a closed toe with slight embellishment, while the chunky heel adds height and comfort for the stage. The strap around the ankle is adjustable so she can wear this little girl shoe pageant after pageant. Closed toe white shoes are usually required for national level little girl pageants, and are usually paired with cupcake pageant dresses. We also carry the hard to find infant pageant socks that can be made to match her newborn pageant dress! If she's in the junior sized Sugar pageant gowns, I usually reccomend the Missy 466 clear plastic shoe by Touch Ups. This is a comfortable clear shoe with glimering rhinestone embellishment and a slight heel for added height. This shoe will also go with any pageant dress, so the $44.00 price tag is great considering the milage she will get out of one pair of little pageant shoes!

Be sure to check out our large collection of baby pageant gowns, designer pageant dresses from Tony Bowls, Jovani, and Sherri Hill, and our popular Jim Ball pageant jewelry that tops off the whole package!

This One's For You, Taylor...

Well, the results are in and while the young Taylor Swift may not have taken home a big shiny moon man, we can take a look back at the shimmering sequin evening gown she sported at the CMA awards when she first emerged on the music scene in the spring of 2008. The original red carpet dress by Kaufman Franco featured an elegant deep V neckline, empire waist, and full crystal and sequin skirt with a slight sweep train.

Not every girl can afford the Franco designer dress but thankfully, this weeks celebrity look of the week is by Faviana! This New York dress company has designed a beautiful evening gown for any black tie affair. Now you can get Taylor Swift's look from head to toe for your homecoming court dress, or order this in advance for prom 2012! All over sequined gowns are always one of the most popular prom pageant trends. Stay fashion forward in a celebrity prom dress from DressProm.net!

Homecoming is JUST around the corner and you may have already found an adorable little fitted cocktail dress or a multi colored dress with a tulle skirt. No matter what your style, DressProm.net has the best selling short homecoming dress for fall! Pair a feathered dress with the Jonathan Kayne Starlite shoe (top left) or make a statement in the Peacock platform heel (bottom left) from Jonathan Kayne prom pageant shoes. Paradox London also has a great line of evening shoes available in fun styles! The Shannon Pink Paradox London heel (middle of top row) would be an edgy touch to a baby doll style dress! I love the high heel and the peep toe. The subtle bow with large rhinestone detail would also go great with a girls night out dress or make a darling heel with jeans! Compliment the chunky stones on your Blush homecoming dress or your Sherri Hill sweet sixteen gown with the Kristen prom pageant shoe (middle bottom row) by Paradox London! These are amazing wear-it-again formal shoes that any girl would love to rock! All over sequin dresses are not only going to be a huge Prom 2012 trend but also popular for the homecoming designer gown season! Night Moves makes a sequin platform shoe that will go great with a solid black dress to add a pop of color for facebook photo ops! The Star shoe (pictured right upper corner) is a fun shoe that will be comfortable on the homecoming court and even better with a high low dress! If your dress has multi colored sequins, the Cinnamon shoe by Touch Ups (bottom right corner) will compliment most any homecoming dress color and also add a little more bling and sparkle!

Go ahead, give em some lip!

Make up is an accessory all of it's own when putting together your look for whatever the occasion might be. Flipping through the latest issue of Bazaar last night I noticed so many designers using a bright pink lip for almost EVERYTHING. When choosing the color of your lipstick or lip gloss keep in mind that you want to stick to a color that works in contrast to your attire and whatever other make up you plan on using. For example, this popular pink lip goes great with a royal purple dress! A natural or nude colored lip compliments an off-white bridal gown and keeps it toned tone and classic yet stands out beautifully in pictures! Don't be afraid to make a statement with your lip color! Vibrant red lips are ideal for formal black gowns and give a vintage "pin-up" look to a white dress. Play around! Remember, don't stray too far from colors that work with your natural skin pigment.

Move Over Sherri Hill

We carry so many different designers for prom pageant and bridal that it would be easier for me to tell you which lines we DIDN'T carry. The dresses, shoes, jewelry, make-up, and hair the combinations of looks is almost unlimited! But only a select few can say they have celebrity clients and Miss America regulars.

Yes, Sherri Hill has dressed many Miss America's BUT I am predicting a log of Mac Duggal evening gowns at this years Miss America's pageant! It's easy to see why out of dozens and dozens of designers that Mac Duggal is probably one of, if not THE , favorite.

Mac Duggal has a way of keeping the sentimental value of prom, the energy of the pageant stage, and still put his own unique touch on every one of his designs! So, it should come as no surprise why the cast and crew of the hit movie Country Strong chose a Mac Duggal gown (pictured) for Gwyneth Paltrow to wear for her character's moment in the spotlight. (You know me, some southern drawl, fitted gowns, and rhinestone sparkle and I'm on board!) Mac (no, not make-up) also has a way of setting and following current couture trends that you see in Vogue, Bazaar, on the Runway, and on the red carpet and bringing them to this industry.

For example, the nude gown Paltrow rocked in Country Strong is one of the BIGGEST trends for this pageant season 2011 and for the spring! Nudes, pinks, and light golds can be seen everywhere from adorable nude beaded Sherri Hill cocktail dresses (but that's if you order 12 -18 weeks in advance. That's also IF they actually make the dress for your wear date. I LOVE her designs but you apparently have to order them MONTHS in advance.) I am seeing tons of Nude pumps with spring skirts and even glossy nude lips. (Thank you Gaga for your BEAUTIFUL :) Viva Glam Mac campaign. Yes, now I am talking about make-up.)

Mac also took a chance with his little girl pageant line, Sugar and it has been a huge success! Sure, he could have taken his designs and patterns from his original gowns and slightly modified them for this line like some popular high end prom pageant designers did. Instead, he took a refreshing approach to what a little girl pageant dress should be. Not the same dress you've seen in every color over and over again on Toddlers and Tiaras. (Thank you TLC for very one sided look at the sport of pageantry and an amazing extreme couponing show that really makes me think how many more amazing ties I could buy if I just clipped stuff out of the Sunday paper...)
There is no other pageant line that can compete with Sugar and I can't tell you how often I get phone calls and emails and pictures of my little girls who have won in Sugar dresses.

So obviously if you need to feel like a movie star, a runway model, a beauty queen, or just the baddest chick that walks in the room I would suggest Mac Duggal and DressProm.net. Or PageantDesigns.com. Or DimitraDesigns.com. That's right we now have THREE sites which is why I have been MIA for so long. Or just give me a call 864 467 0801. Unless your iPhone froze and you Droid somehow blew up and Verizon Wireless is looking for a way to not get you a new one, you can email me at info@dimitradesigns.com.

Off to work on the new Homecoming 2011 collections...
